John Jarve, Managing Director, Menlo Ventures
John joined Menlo Ventures in 1985. Over the past 22 years, he has led Menlo's investments in more than 40 portfolio companies, primarily in the communications, storage, semiconductor, Internet and financial technology sectors. His recent investments and board seats include: Cavium Networks, Centrality Communications, DiVitas Networks, Finaplex, Matisse Networks, MobiTV, NetContinuum and PowerReviews.
John was a lead venture investor in the following public companies that achieved successful initial public offerings: Ascend Communications (ASND, now part of Lucent), Digital Insight (DGIN), FaxSav (EASY), iBasis (IBAS), SpectraLink (SLNK), Syntellect (SXNT, now part of Enghouse Systems) and UUNET Technologies (UUNT, now part of Verizon).
John is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering) and the Stanford University Graduate School of Business (M.B.A.). He is a member of the Stanford Graduate School of Business Management Board, a trustee of the Crystal Springs Uplands School, and a former trustee of the Corporation of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Benjamin Boyer, General Partner, Lehman Brother Venture Partners
Benjamin A. Boyer is a partner in Lehman Brothers Venture Partners. Mr. Boyer joined Lehman Brothers in 1998 and has been with the Venture Capital Group since 2000. Prior to joining Lehman Brothers Venture Partners, he was a member of Lehman Brothers' Technology Investment Banking Group where he was responsible for corporate finance and strategic advisory assignments. Mr. Boyer is on the Board of Tumri, PowerReviews and Tira Wireless and is also responsible for the Firm's investments in Endeca, SideStep and GameStrata. Mr. Boyer holds an M.B.A. from Stanford University and a B.S. in human and organizational development from Vanderbilt University.
Paul Gaffney, Chief Operating Officer, Desktone, Inc.
Paul is an eCommerce and operations executive who has created substantial market value at some of the world's most admired retail and online consumer companies including Staples, Office Depot and Charles Schwab. He built Office Depot's first Internet business, turning his initial idea of integrated multi-channel Internet commerce into a platform for a multi-billion-dollar eCommerce giant. His vision led Office Depot to be among the very first traditional retailers to establish a dominant position on the web. As CIO at Staples, Paul oversaw Staples' fast-growing eCommerce business, and later as EVP he transformed Staples' supply chain into a lean, synchronized operation that delivers materially better sales and margin results.
Whether leading several thousand marketing and customer service associates, delivering 600,000 packages each business day, managing several billion dollars in goods-for-resale inventory, or building the world's leading eCommerce and financial services web businesses, Paul has consistently improved sales and service while increasing operating profit and capital efficiency.
Paul is a graduate of Harvard University.
Howard Hartenbaum, General Partner, Draper Richards (Board Advisor)
Howard Hartenbaum focuses on investments in enterprise and consumer software and services, wireless network solutions, and peer-to-peer technology. His current directorships include DecentralTV, LucidPort and NearbyNow. He led the founding investment in Skype (acquired by eBay), and was also a former member of the board of directors where his achievement resulted in his joining the Forbes Midas List of top venture capitalists for the years 2006-2007.
Prior to joining Draper Richards, Mr. Hartenbaum held positions at Hughes Electronics, where he was responsible for supporting business development, marketing and sales of satellite, information security and automotive technologies developed by HRL Technologies. He has also worked in engineering positions at Honda Motor Company and Teledyne Relays. Mr. Hartenbaum has worked overseas for a total of ten years in Luxembourg and Japan, is professionally fluent in Japanese and a graduate of M.I.T.
Andy Chen, Founder and CEO, PowerReviews, Inc.
Andy is co-founder and CEO of PowerReviews, where he is responsible for the overall vision and strategic direction for the company.
At Fogdog, Andy led the customer acquisition and creative teams to create a world-class brand based on providing an extraordinary customer experience. Following the acquisition by GSI Commerce, Andy served as Vice President, Product Development and Vice President, Product Management for GSI. In these roles, he worked closely with GSI's ecommerce partners to ensure that the features and functionality of their sites provided an optimal customer experience.
Following GSI, Andy joined Yahoo! Shopping in 2004 as Director of Product Management. There, Andy was responsible for overseeing site features and functionality with a goal of positioning Yahoo! Shopping as the starting destination for customers shopping online.
Andrew attended Stanford University.
Robert Chea, Founder and COO, PowerReviews, Inc.
Robert Chea is co-founder and chief operating officer of PowerReviews. In this role, Robert is the company's product and technology visionary, ensuring PowerReviews' features and functionality continue to meet the evolving needs of retailers and brands in today's research-intensive shopping environment.
At Fogdog, Robert led the technology and development efforts, and focused on delivering superior technologies and services to establish Fogdog as a leading online retail brand.
Robert also served as Chief Technology Officer for GSI, directing the company's overall technology infrastructure and development strategies to support ongoing rapid growth. Robert later transitioned into the role of Vice President of Strategy, where he led product management, user experience, and search strategy.
Robert is a graduate of Stanford University.
